LOGAN, Utah Joseph Howard Skabelund, 88, passed away on Feb. 26, 2002, at the Logan Regional Hospital.
He was born March 19, 1913, in Logan to Jacob Ephriam and Lola Ann Bissegger Skabelund.
Howard married Utahna Young on Feb. 13, 1936. She died on Dec. 17, 1995. They had two daughters, Sheran Simkins and Tamra Boccia.
He attended Cache Valley schools and graduated from Logan High. He was a lifetime resident of Cache Valley, where he owned and operated his own farm and raised Black Angus cattle. He loved farming, working the soil, planting and harvesting. He continued to work his farm until just before his death. Howard loved fishing, hunting and camping. He was an avid Utah State University fan, each year attending all football and basketball games. He just received an award for over 50 years of bowling with the Logan Mens Bowling Association.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheran (Ike) Simkins, Ivins, Utah; and Tamra Boccia, Logan; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Lynn and Robert Skabelund.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his father and mother and his sister, Lola.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 E. Center Street, Logan, where friends may call on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
