US Congressman. He graduated from Cleveland Hill Academy in 1898, from Cumberland University in 1911, studied law was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Cookeville, Tennessee, in 1912. In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress, serving until 1923. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law in the City of Nashville and was appointed receiver of the Tennessee Central Railroad Company. In 1924, he served as special assistant to the Attorney General of the United States and was appointed referee in bankruptcy for the Nashville division of the middle district of Tennessee, serving until his resignation in January 1940.
