Gerald "Jerry" E. Carnes, age 80, of Canton passed away in Laurels of Massillon on Friday, March 6, 2009. He was born in Canton, on May 31, 1928, to the late William and Evelyn Carnes and graduated from Canton Timken High School class of 1946.

Jerry worked as a driver for Quality Cleaners and retired after 56 years of faithful service. His friendly demeanor led to many friendships from his customers over the years. Jerry was a member of the VFW and enjoyed sports especially car races. His greatest love was his family and he cherished the time spent with his two grandsons. He will be greatly missed.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Carnes of the home and to whom he was married 60 wonderful years; daughter, Sandy (Ronnie) Antonelli of Jackson Twp.; two grandsons, Dante and Marco; brother, Scott Carnes of Canton; sister, Marlene (Richard) Watkins of Canton.

The family wishes to express their sincere "Thank You" to the Laurels of Massillon for the heart felt care they received. Funeral services will be held in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2009 with Rev. Fr. Thomas Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be in the funeral home two hours prior to the funeral from 12-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Humane Society in Jerry's memory.
