Death of J. W. Frazer

John Wesley Frazer, a well known and respected citizen of this community passed away Saturday morning, April 30th, at his home in the west part of town. Death was very sudden due to heart trouble.

Mr. Frazer was born Feb. 5th, 1841, at Wesley, Illinois, died April 30, 1921; aged 80 years, 2 months and 25 days.

He enlisted in Federal army service and served three years. He was engaged in seventeen battles and was ninety days in Andersonville prison at Kankakee, Illinois [*in Andersonville, Georgia]. In 1862 he united with the Methodist church, at Kankakee and later moved his membership to the Independent Holiness church. He was a brave, strong and noble man, who fought for the true causes of righteousness.

On Aug. 28, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Hayes, of Wesley, Illinois, and to this union were born six children, Albert J., of Ely, Mo., Mrs. A. D. Benson, of Sidney, Iowa, Mrs. C. W. Lilly of Duncans Bridge, Mo., Chas L., of St. Joseph, Mo., Guy G., of Ottumwa, Iowa and Edward F., of Garden City, Mo.

In 1869 he with his family moved to Moniteau Co. and in 1887 to Randolph county, and then in 1912 they came to Clarence, where he resided until his death.

Besides the wife and six children a number of other relatives and friends are left to mourn his departure.

Funeral services were conducted at the Center Street Methodist church Monday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock by Revs. A. M. Kiergan, Ward M. Baker, of this city and Rev. A. L. Pipes of Burlington, Iowa.
