He came to Ohio with his Father when he was a young "lad" and settled on a Farm about 2 miles south of what was then called Mt. Holly, now Brinkhaven. His Obituary describes him "as a man he was full of life and activity, and of a very jovial and pleasant disposition and as a husband, most kind and dutiful." He was a Farmer and a Merchant, owning a Dry Goods and Grocery Store in Tiverton Center, Coshocton Co., Ohio. He helped organize and build "The United Brethren" church in Union Township in 1864. His Obituary goes on to say "As a Christian he was sincere and devoted… As a friend he was reliable and strong, and to be depended upon in times of need."
