Funeral services for Rev George Raymond McGhghy were held Saturday, Sept 16 from the Christian Church in Osceola. The 1 pm services were conducted by the Rev John Dale with interment in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. He died Wednesday, Sept 13 at his home in Osceola [Iowa].

George Raymond McGhghy was born August 31, 1913 in Rooks County, Kansas, the eldest son of Alonzo and Maree McGhghy. He spent his childhood near Woodston, Kansas and was graduated from high school there.

At the age of 13, Ray recognized the call of God to the ministry. At the age of 16, he was licensed to preach by the Northcentral Kansas Conference of the Methodist Church and was later ordained by the Assemblies of God. At the time of his death he was a member of the Full Gospel Fellowship International.

Ray received his theological training at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. As a student there, he met Dolores June Newberry of Springfield who became his wife Oct 20, 1937. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of four sons: Seth Raymond, Jerald David, Paul Joseph and Phillip Lee.

From his youth, Ray was always involved in civic affairs. He served as president of his high school student body and acted as scout master. During World War II he served as executive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce in Iowa, Falls, Iowa and served as chaplain for the Lions Club there. He was also a member of the community board in Clarinda, Iowa.

During the duration of his ministry he obeyed St Paul's charge to "Preach the Word" and he used every means possible to him to preach Christ and Him crucified. He did the work of a pastor, evangelist, teacher, radio minister, counselor, builder and friend. His pastoral ministry included churches in Jewell, Kansas; Iowa Falls, Iowa; New Sharon, Iowa; Clarinda, Iowa and his last pastorate was the Evangelical Covenant Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. In spite of ill health, his heart reached out to the many who sought his counsel and love.

Ray was an example in prayer and devotion, understanding and sympathy, dedication and zeal, sacrifice and labors of love, and sincere searching of the scriptures for God's will for his life and the lives of others. Because of the influence of his life, many young people have devoted their lives to full-time Christian service around the world.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores; four sons; Seth of Bakersfield, Cal; Jerald of Fort Madison, Iowa; Paul of Omaha, Neb and Phillip of Charlotte, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mrs Maree Walker; one brother, Dean and other relatives along with a host of friends.

Ray had laid aside his armour and entered into the presence of his Lord to receive the crown of life eternal. CLARINDA HERALD-JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Sep 25, 1972
