Marquess of Tavistock

Only son of John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford, and the Honourable Gertrude Leveson-Gower. Paternal grandson of Wriothesley Russell, 2nd Duke of Bedford, and Elizabeth Howland. Maternal grandson of John Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Gower, and Lady Evelyn Pierrepont.

In June 1764, Francis married Lady Elizabeth Keppel, the daughter of the 2nd Earl of Albemarle. They were parents to three sons - Francis, John and William.

He was heir to the dukedom of Bedford, but died after a fall from his horse. His eldest son became duke of Bedford on the death of his grandfather.

The Marquess of Tavistock is buried in the Bedford Chapel of the parish Church of St. Michael, Chenies.

His widow died the following year.
