MRS. EASTMAN, REAL PIONEER DIES SATURDAY

Mrs. Enos Eastman, 92 years of age, and one of the pioneers of the county, died at the home of her daughter in Plymouth Saturday afternoon. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Episcopal church, the Rev. Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in Union cemetery.
January 1, 1844, Miss Miriam Carpenter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Asa Carpenter, was married to Enos Eastman. In May 1849, Mr. and Mrs. Eastman came to Sheboygan, taking the boat “Niagara” from Buffalo, and landing here four days later. They located in a log house built the year previous by Lafayette Eastman and which Enos purchased. Only about an acre of land had been cleared up to that time. While he only acquired a quarter section at first, later he increased his holding to 340 acres.
The second years after locating in this county he built a frame house and later a fine brick residence.
All during these years of hardships, for life in those days had its trials and tribulations, Mrs. Eastman was a fitting helpmate.
Four children survive Mrs. Eastman, Vista, wife of Reuben Gardner, Charles D., of Plymouth, Enos E. of Los Angeles, Cal., and Lillie, wife of Gustave W. Zerler.
Mrs. Eastman suffered a fall some three years ago, and the injury was such that she never fully recovered, but all the time she was uncomplaining. She was a woman who endeared herself because of her noble traits of character.
