3rd Earl of Bedford

Only son of Sir Francis Russell, Lord Russell, and Juliana Foster. Paternal grandson of Francis Russell, 2nd Earl of Bedford, and Margaret St. John. Maternal grandson of Sir John Foster.

He inherited the earldom on the death of his grandfather in 1585.

Edward married the Honourable Lucy Harington at Stepney, London, in 1594. Lucy was the daughter of the 1st Baron Haryngton of Exton, and brought a fortune and the estate of Minster Lovell to the marriage.

He was involved in the Earl of Essex's rebellion in 1601 and was fined and briefly imprisoned for taking part. Afterwards, he retired to Hertfordshire, where he died in 1627.

Edward left no surviving issue and his titles passed to his cousin, Francis Russell.

He is interred in the Bedford Chapel of the parish Church of St. Michael, Chenies.
