Rosie L. Gates, 76, died on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in a local hospital, surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Gates was a devoted wife and mother who surrounded herself with her children and grandchildren, who loved her dearly. She was also a member of St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gillray L. Gates; daughter, Gloria J. Dillard; father, Hugh Matthews; mother, Lou Willie Bridges; two sisters, Dollie M. Gore and Ina C. Green; one nephew, Charles E. Green and granddaughter, Alethea N. Dillard.

She is survived by her four daughters, Theresa A. Quinn, Naomi D. Dillard, Sherry (Jamel) L. Russell, Valencia L. Gates; three sons, Ronnie Dillard, Dennis J. Dillard, and Christopher L. Gates; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephew, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in the chapel with Pastor Billy Church officiating.

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, TN.
