Former owner/operator of Beaver Twp. garage
Victor A. Ziller Jr., 85, of Beaver Valley Road, Bloomsburg, passed away Sunday afternoon, Oct. 23, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Nuremberg on Dec. 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Victor A. Sr. and Emma (Marignoni) Ziller. He spent the past 52 years in Beaver Township and had also lived in Englishtown, N.J., and Nuremberg.
Vic was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having attained the rank of private first class while serving in the European Theater.
He was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Weston.
Vic was employed as a mechanic for PennDOT, having retired in 1986, and was also the owner/operator of Ziller's Garage in Beaver Township from 1960-1989. He enjoyed auto racing, having owned and fielded race cars from the 1960s to the 1980s at area tracks, including Evergreen, Selinsgrove and Big Diamond.
He was preceded in death, in addition to parents, by his brothers: Arthur, Louis and Eugene, and a sister, Rita Lynn.
Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine Plafcan, with whom he would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Nov. 6, 2011; two children: Sherry Sprout and her husband James, and Ronnie Ziller and his wife Gail, all of Beaver Township; three grandsons: Michael LaBuda and his wife Tina, Beaver Township; Pete Ziller and his wife Tammy, Bloomsburg; and A.J. Ziller and his wife Lynn, Beaver Township; seven great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Tanner, A.J. Jr., Brock, and Chloe Ziller, and Andy and Nate LaBuda, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Weston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
