Esther M. Kubitz, 90, formerly of 172 Golfview in North Liberty, died Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Heritage Nursing & Rehabilitation Clinic in Cedar Rapids of heart failure.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, with Pastor Brad Sherman officiating. Friends may call Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to Solid Rock Christian Church in Coralville.
Esther was born February 25, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Henry & Nellie Baczkowski. Esther married Edward Kubitz April 25, 1935 in Chicago.
She was a self taught artist. Painting with oil was her favorite. She painted landscapes, still life and portraits. Esther also enjoyed sculpting. She attended classes at the Chicago Art Institute.
Esther moved to the Iowa City area in 1981 after living in Little Rock, Arkansas in the early 1970's. She moved briefly to Gainesville, Florida in 1986, returning to North Liberty in 1992. She was a member of Solid Rock Christian Church in Coralville.
She is survived by a son Edward "Babe" Kubitz & his wife Genyth of Little Rock; a daughter, Joyce McCann & her husband Steve of North Liberty; 10 grandchildren, Molly Daugherty & her husband Chad, Genyth Thomas & her husband Michael, Ed Kubitz and his wife Donna, Julie Johnson & her husband Bob, Andrea Marello, Daryl Fallon & her husband Bob, Jennifer Stango & her husband Michael, Jonene Jaynes & her husband Rob, Peter Kubitz & his wife Christine and Laurie Kubitz; 13 great grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Preston, a daughter Arline and three brothers, George, Emil & Ed "Sandy" Baczkowski.
