Shirley was born in Chicago, Illinois, May 11, 1927, the daughter of Jacob and Abbie Lamprey Carson. She was raised at Kodiak, Missouri, east of Savannah where she attended Cherry Grove country school for eight years prior to graduating from Savannah High School with the class of 1945. She studied to become a registered nurse and graduated from the former Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph in 1948.
Shirley was married to Samuel "Jerome" Dutch, August 15, 1948, They farmed and raised livestock near White Cloud until his death June 7, 1992. She was married to A.D. Barrons, August 29, 1992 in Topeka, Kansas. They moved from the farm near White Cloud to Topeka to make their home in May 1996. He died March 25, 2003.
Mrs. Barrons was a member of the Rainbo social club for many years. She also was a lifetime member of VFW Auxiliary #5210 of Hiawatha.
Survivors include two children: John (Linda) Dutch of Monument, CO, Barbara (Paul) Oltjen of rural Robinson; three step-children: Gary Barrons of Boise, Idaho, Roger Barrons of Manhattan, KS, Carolyn Lewis of Lawrence, KS; 5 grand-daughters; and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother Robert Carson of Olathe, KS; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father Fred Dick; a sister Patricia Ward; and a brother C.M. Carson.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Reverend Paul B. Mitchell will officiate. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud.
