Edwin Lee Gaylord was the son of Rolland E. Gaylord and Laura Ann (Irvin) Gaylord of Amsterdam, MO. Rolland E. was born in Fowler, IN. Rolland was the youngest of four siblings (George A. Gaylord, Carrie Mae (Gaylord) Barce, Joseph Eli Gaylord and all born in Union Twp. Benton County, IN. to Joseph Harvey Gaylord and Catherine Ann (Barbee) Gaylord of Fowler, IN. Laura Ann was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Monteville L. Irvin of Oxford. Laura Ann Irvin was born in Ambia, IN. and graduated from Oxford High School in 1905. Rolland & Laura joined a group from Benton County who went to Oklahoma to farmstead. They moved on to Rich Hills, MO. and then to Amsterdam, Mo.,where they made their permanent home. Roland and Laura were parents to eight children, Helen who died at age 3, Joseph, Ruth Ann (Gaylord) Bond, Edwin Lee, Marvel Ann (Gaylord) DeLisle, Dale Dean Gaylord, Lois (Gaylord) Kinnaird and Rex Eugene Gaylord.
Edwin came to Fowler in 1938 to work as a farm hand to Emerson Waller of Union Twp. He met Virginia Mae Anderson and they married on April 1st, 1939. Eight children were born to this union. Loretta June, Kendall Eugene, Joann Carol, Joseph Edwin, Deborah Sue, Terrance Dean, David Lee and Sandra Kay. Edwin was a farmer,carpenter,Past Master of the Fowler Chapter of the Masonic Lodge, Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Fowler and served as Benton County Building Commissioner. Ed will be remembered as having wit, a good farmer, carpenter, friend, neighbor, father, husband and volunteering his services where needed.
