----

A very sad funeral took place here Friday Jan. 5th, when the remains of Mrs. Elizabeth Bents were laid to rest in the German lutheran cemetery. She was very well known in this community and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Kappas. She was born in Itlingen Boden, (sic), Germany, on Jan. 3, 1841 coming to this country when twelve years old and resided in Trenton, New Jersey four years, after which she ame (sic) to Hamburg where she was united in marriage in 1858 living on the farm ever since. This happy union was blessed with 11 children, 6 daughters and five sons of which one daughter and one son are dead, having died in infancy. Her husband preceded her to the grave on Dec. 14, 1882.

Mrs. Bentz was one of the early settlers here and a members of the Ev. Lutheran church for nearly 60 years.

The remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery, Rev. Bouman officiating. The choir also sang several appropriate numbers.

She had attained the age of 75 years, 6 months, 30 days.

She leaves to mourn her death five daughters, four sons, four daughters-in-laws, four sins-in-law (sic), 55 grandhuldren (sic) and 35 great grandhcildren (sic).

I know that my redeemer lives, that he has prepared a home for me; and crowns of victory he gives, to those who would his children be. Then ask me not to mingle on amid the gay and thoughtless throng; for I am only waiting to hear the summons, child come.

The pall bearers were Wm. Dreis, Henry Harms, Emil Latzke, Fred Bohlmann, Fred Bergman, Fred Klancke, and the flower bearers were, Eleanor and Louisa Bentz, Sarah and Anna Heimbach, Anna Schmeckpeper and Ida Buerkle.

Those from far attending the funeral were:

Mr. and Mrs. Heimbach and children, Mrs. Aug. Hoyer, Mrs. Ernest Schulze, Mrs. G. Voigt, Mrs. Rasch, Mrs. Haas of St. Paul, Herman and John Bentz of Mora, Minnesota, John and Albert Bentz, Mrs. Otto Grave, Mrs. C. Siewart, Christ Jolem, Wm. and Emil Buerkle, Mr. and Mrs. G. Buerkle, Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Buerkle, Miss Ida Buerkle and Mrs. F. Bando of Gibbon, John and Carl Mathews of Glencoe, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Elling of Plato, Mr. and Mrs. P. Herman of Tiger Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Malz, Adolph Reinitz, Mr. and Mrs. Mehnke of Henderson and many other friends from far and near.
