Nicholas was a General in the Territorial Militia.
In 1849, he reportedly died in a hunting accident after slipping on a log. His gun discharged when he slipped and he lingered for several days before passing away. Sarah and Nicholas had seven children.
His tombstone reads: "General Nicholas Blackwell, Born March 28, 1801, Died Jan 6, 1849. Go lovely one, yes, go to rest, Where the weeping willows wave, And leave the bosom thou hast pressed, For the pillows of the grave."
