Film Director. Originally a first-rate post-impressionist painter, he turned to film directing in the 1920s. His films include "George White's Scandals" (1934), "Dante's Inferno" (1935), "They Came by Night" (1940), and "Dead Men Tell." He also directed some films of comic legends Laurel & Hardy.
