Joseph A. Shellhammer, 84 of Rock died on December 9, 1988 following an extended illness. He was born on January 18, 1904 in Glen Lyon, a son of John and Susan (Cragle) Shellhammer.
He was a 43 year member of the First Baptist Church, Newark Valley and a retired employee of Allied Maintenance, Endicott.
Mr. Shellhammer is survived by his daughters, Cora Jean Whitmarsh, Endwell, Mrs. Kenneth (Joanne) Card, Newark Valley, Mrs. John (Linda) Speaks, Kensington, Md; sons, Rev. William J. Shellhammer,Connelsville, Robert J. Shellhammer, Newark Valley; a brother, Arthur R. Shellhammer, Endicott; sisters, Mrs. Clara Smith, Mrs. Helen Labovsky, both of Binghamton, Mrs. Ethel Rapp, Port Jarvis, NY; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret E. Shellhammer and brother and sister, Edward Shellhammer and Minnie Rich.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Newark Valley with Pastor Roger Rosenau and Rev. R. Craig Golden, former Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley.
Memorials in his memory may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Newark Valley.
The family will receive their friends Sunday evening 7 to 9 p.m.
at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
