He was born June 8, 1897, in Kinkaid Township, the son of Albert and Gertrude Wilson Austin.
Mr. Austin was a retired carpenter. He had lived in St. Louis 22 years. He was married June 28, 1922, in Murphysboro, to Grace Worthen.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1919 to 1922.
Mr. Austin leaves his wife; sons, Gale, Jr. of Peoria, and Lyle and Keith; both of St. Louis; daughter, Mrs. Betty Woodward of St. Louis; seven grandchildren; a brother, Ross Austin of Portland Ore.; and sisters, Mr. Gage Reardon of Collinsville, Mrs. Alleen Nolan of Springfield, and Mrs. Kathleen Mills of St. Louis.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ava, Rev. William G. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
