George Alstat, 72-year-old farmer and lifelonog resident of the Ora Township area of Jackson County, was found dead near a barn on his farm early Monday afternoon.
Jackson County Sheriff Howard Cheatham said Alstat was found by a son, Joe, after the family started a search for Alstat when he did not return at the noon hour.
Jackson County Coroner Edward Knowles was at the scene, and said death apparently was caused by heart ailure. Knowles said no inquest will be held.
Alstat was born in Ora Township in 1882. He was married in Murphysboro in 1904 to Emma Kuehn, who preceded him in death in 1943.
Alstat leaves one daughter, Mrs. Anna Ebersohl of Vergennes t. 1, two sons, Joe Vergennes and Purle of Rt. 3, Murphysboro - eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Callon of Santa Ana, Calif.; Mrs. Margaret Sandusky of Rt. 4, Murphysboro; Mrs. Josephine Moore of Du Quoin; and Mrs. Tracy Schimpf of Ava; and two brothers, William of Ava, and Albert of Centralia.
One son George, preceded him in death in 1942.
Friends may call at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ava until the hour of services, Thursday at 9 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, the Rev. Father Lawrence Drone officiating.
Burial will be in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery.
The Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
