Motion Picture Director, Playwright. He made motion pictures by small means, but though they were low budget productions, achieved world reputation during his short lifetime. He used the film and the theatre as a platform to view his political point of view, and didn´t yield for subjects of controversy. He won acclaim with films like "The bitter tears of Petra von Kant (1971), Maria Braun´s marriage (1978), Lola (1981), Veonika Voss (1982) and Querelle (1982). For television he made "Berlin Alexanderplatz" (1980), a 15-hour television series. His hard life caught up with him though, and he died from an overdose in Munich 1982.
