Oscar Benjamin Sikes, 51, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Sikes was born Feb. 25, 1960 in Appling County and had lived here most of his life. He was a carpenter and a member of the Local Union 256. Sikes was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church and a 1979 graduate of Appling County Comprehensive High School.

Survivors include his father and mother, John and Gladys Sikes of Baxley; his sweetheart, Sheila White of Baxley; six sisters, Susan (Melvin) Johnson of Washington, GA, Sandy (Billy) Smith of Baxley; Marie Hallman of Baxley, Marilyn Jenkins of Baxley and Connie (Kelly) Anderson of Pelham and Carolyn (Corey) Griffin of Baxley; one brother, Danny (Jeannie) Sikes of Baxley; one step-son, Stacy Adcock; one step-daughter, Lawanna Shipes; two grandchildren, Wally Smith and Montana Gurley; one great-grandchild, Hayden Smith; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Brown and the Rev. Kelly Anderson officiating. Interment followed in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Adam Hallman, Daniel Sikes, William C. Deen, Danny Spell, Danny Shipes, Kyle Taylor, Dennis Jenkins and Wally Smith.

Musical selections were rendered by William Corey Deen, the Rev. Rick Brown and Maxine Brown.

Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
