Immigrated from Erwitte, Westphalia, Prussia in 1852 with parents and siblings. He was naturalized as U.S. citizen in 1865. He married Marie Schmed 1864 in Josephville; born 1840, died 1885. They had one son, Francis who died at 2 yrs. and an adopted son, Leo, born July 1879. He married Elizabeth Wohman 1886 in St Louis. They had a daughter and a son, Albert Theodore; both died in infancy. She died March 1892. He then married Katherina Ruhr in Oct 1892 in Josephville. To them 5 children were born: Bernard H., July 1893; Saloma M., Feb 1895; Frank, Jan 1897; Alexander Cletus, Jan 1899; Catherine Marie, Nov 1900. Per obit for Francis, following immigration at 14, his family bought and settled on a 160 acre farm near Josephville, MO, where he spent the rest of his 72 year life. In 1921, his sons bought an additional 210 acres of neighboring land. The farm's sole owner was eventually his son, Bernard (Ben).
