A. V. Spikes, 94 passed away peacefully on Saturday October 22, 2011 at Pleasant Hills Community Living Center in Jackson.
He was born August 1, 1917 in Fulton Louisiana. He was a World War II veteran who loved to tell his war stories and was also past commander of the VFW Post 112 in Jackson. He retired from Knox Glass after thirty two years and then worked for the Rankin County Sherriff Department. He loved to play his guitar and always had a beautiful vegetable garden every year until he had to give it up at the age of 90. He loved to make people laugh with his jokes which he never forgot. He was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Pearl.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hiram B. and Pearl Spikes, his four sisters and four brothers and his son A. V. Spikes, Jr. who was killed in Vietnam in 1966.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie Douglas Spikes of 65 years, his daughter Sandra (Heerssen) and husband Kerry of Texas, daughter Judy (Jones) and husband Duane of Carthage, son Harold Spikes of Pearl, daughter Sharon (Trosper) and husband Kenny of Byram and his son Brad Spikes of Pearl; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
We would like to thank the staff of Pleasant Hills Community Living Center of Jackson for taking such good care of him for the last six months.
Visitation is 5pm-8pm today and after 10am Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11am Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in Lakewood Memorial
