Dale Marie Bagley VanScoyk, 94, passed away on October 19, 2011 at Crestwood Care Center in Ogden, Utah. She was born to Parley Eugene and Bertha Charlotte Howell Bagley on March 10, 1917 in Fish Haven, Idaho.

Dale's family moved from Idaho to Fairview when she was very small and she lived most of her life in Fairview, attended the Fairview Elementary School and graduated from Star Valley High School in 1936. After graduation, she did housework for several families.

She met her husband, Eddie, in January of 1936. They started dating and were married in the Logan LDS Temple on October 4, 1938. They made their home in Fairview where Ed was a plumber and carpenter. They had three children: Robert Eddie, Bertha Marie and Johnny Irvin (Johnny died in May of 1998). Ed died in June of 1956. He had been sick for two years with emphysema.

Other jobs Dale had included: custodian for the Fairview School and Fairview LDS Church Building, worked at Star Valley Swiss Cheese Factory in Thayne and at the Airplane factory in Afton. In 1961, she took over the Fairview Post Office. She was made postmaster in January of 1962 and held that position for the next 34 years until her retirement on December 31, 1995 due to health reasons. She was 78 years old when she retired and one of the oldest postmasters in the United States.

She was an active and devoted member of the Fairview ward of the LDS church and served in the Relief Society, Young Women's and Primary Organizations.

Dale will be remembered for her service to others, her homemade star quilts, footstools, stuffed animals, fleece blankets, and many other items that decorate her friends and family member's homes. She will be remembered most for her homemade chicken noodle soup and root beer, post office candy store and her ever famous teepee parties.

Dale is survived by her son Robert (Mary) Eden, Utah; daughter Bertha Felter, West Jordan, Utah; daughter-in-law Norma VanScoyk, Afton, Wyoming and Thatcher, Arizona; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and six (soon to be seven) great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Parley (Pearl) Bagley, Logan, Utah; and sister Cherril (Evern) Draney, Ogden, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie, son Johnny, son-in-law Allen Felter, brothers Wayne (Red) and Rene and sister Ruby Cone.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Legacy House of Ogden, Alpine Health Care, Applegate Hospice and the staff at Crestwood Care Center for the warm and loving care shown to Dale.
