Herman Hotze died Thursday evening July 31, 1941, at his home at Effingham, Illinois,after having been in failing health for the past year and one-half. Being born in Teutopolis, Illinois, on January 18, 1860, his age at the time of his death was 81 years, 6 months and 18 days. Herman Hotze was married to Miss Anna Will at the Sacred Heart Church at Lillyville, Illinois, in 1883, the ceremony being performed by Father Michael, O.F.M.

For fifty-three years he taught the Lillyville (Illinois) Parochial School until his retirement when he moved to Effingham, Illinois about ten years ago. Mrs. Hotze preceded her husband in death about four years ago. The couple had the happiness of celebrating their Golden Wedding
anniversary on June 14, 1933, surrounded by their many relatives and friends.

One daughter: Elizabeth passed to the Great Beyond in infancy; the eight surviving children being: Miss Agnes Hotze at home; Sr. Bertholda (Agatha) of Keokuk, Iowa; Sr. Annette (Mary) of St. Mary's Hospital, Quincy, Illinois;
Sr. Annetta (Louisa) of Mount St. Rose Sanitarium, St. Louis, Missouri; Sr. Anita (Rose) of Fermin Deslage Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri; Sr. Hermana (Philomena) of St.Mary of the Angels Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri; Bernard Hotze of Leopold, Missouri; and Frank Hotze at home. One brother; Clem Hotze of Teutopolis; and three sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Schuette and Mrs. Frank Schumacher of Effingham, Illinois; and Sr. Adelinda (Anna) Hotze of Quincy, Illinois; besides eight grandchildren, also are left to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Monday
morning from St. Anthony's Church at Effingham, Illinois, with burial taking place in the parish cemetery in that city.

Among the relatives from out of town who attended the funeral services were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hotze,and two daughters of Leopold, Missouri; Reverend Father Moser and his housekeeper of Frederickstown, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Hotze, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hotze,and family, C.H. Woermann and Ben Meyer, all of Teutopolis, Illinois; Albert and Robert Hotze of Cincinnati, Ohio; Sr. Anita and Sr. Hermana of St. Louis, Missouri;

This paper extends its sympathy to the bereaved family of Mr. Hotze.
