A large crowd of sorrowing friends attended the funeral Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at the First Methodist Church for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rector Lovejoy, one of Tipton's pioneer women, who passed away Monday morning in the home of her son, Raymond Lovejoy, in this city.
Mary Elizabeth Rector was born in Virginia on March 26, 1859, and moved when very young to Texas with her family. She married in Texas on February 14, 1884 to Franklin Early Lovejoy and to this union six children were born. These six children, five sons and one daughter all survive their mother and are: Ola Walton Lovejoy Harwood (12/10/1888) William Mitchell Lovejoy (10/26/1890), Marvin Early Lovejoy (10/12/1892), Raymond Byron Lovejoy (11/01/1896), James Oran Lovejoy (07/13/1898), and John Thomas Lovejoy (01/08/1900).
She is survived by two sisters, Susan Harriett "Hattie" Rutherford of Herford,Tx and Kate Imogene Rector of Virginia and three brothers, William Leonard Rector of San Antonio, and John Harvey Rector and Bradley Sanders Rector of Meadowview, Virginia, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers were Homer Vernon, Raymond Vernon, Frank Vernon, Leo Wearmouth, D. Wearmouth and Avery Baxter, all men whom she knew and loved as little boys.
Interment was made in the Tipton Cemetery beside her husband who preceded her in death a few years ago. The large crowd attending the funeral as well as many others in this community offer sincerest condolences to the children who survive.
