Iva Ruth Lindsey was born May 14, 1931 in Memphis, Texas to Kate Alice (Beckum) and Ernest Davis Lindsey. She is a descendent from one of the pioneer families of Texas and of Lubbock. Iva's maternal great-great-great grandfather fought for the independence of the Republic of Texas in 1836. Her maternal great-grandfather was a mounted Texas Ranger in 1860. Her paternal grandparents, J.D. and Betty Lindsey moved to Lubbock in a covered wagon where they homesteaded and ranched 13 sections of land, a portion of which later became Reese Air Force Base. The Lindseys were one of the first families to bring movies to Lubbock and surrounding towns, operating the Lindsey, the Clifton, and other theaters.
Iva graduated from Lubbock High School. She married Lester York on December 26, 1951. She was a member of Trinity Church and past President of the United Methodist Women's Society.
Her surviving family includes her husband, Lester York; daughter, Tana Zane Huddleston and husband Larry; son, Robert Luke York; and three grandchildren, Melissa Kate Titsworth, Heather Marie York, and Robert Daniel York.
She was predeceased by her parents and only sister, Mary Lou Gentry.
