Funeral services for Herbert H. Blankenship, age 82, will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2011 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Mr. Blankenship died on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville, TN.
A native of Lexington, TN, Herbert was born on November 23, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Bessie Susan Powers Blankenship. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Merchant Marines as a 1st Mate retiring in 1983. During his time with the Merchant Marines, he was able to travel extensively visiting many other countries around the world. He was also involved with many businesses during his life. He loved his family and was very involved with their many activities.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Denise Blankenship of Jackson, TN; daughters, Cheryl Pope and husband Mike of Goodlettsville, TN, Susan Blankenship of Jackson, TN, Lori Camp and husband Daryl of Jackson, Amy Bonham and husband Steven of Jackson, TN; sons, Gary Blankenship and wife Dian of Memphis, TN and David Blankenship of Cordova, TN; grandchildren, Andrea Smith, Melanie Crosby, Christie Hunter, Tiffani Pope, Billy Blankenship, Crystal Alexander, Tommy Blankenship, Katarina Blankenship, Nicole Camp, Lyndsey Camp, Morgan Seech and Cooper Bonham; ten great grandchildren; sister, Mary Hinson of Milan.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Debra White; brothers, Charles Lindberg Blankenship, Joe Blankenship and John A. Blankenship; sisters, Louise Brown and Bonnie Blankenship.
Pallbearers to serve will be Tommy Blankenship, Billy Blankenship, Drew Crosby, Jesse Hunter, Gary Blankenship and Daryl Camp.
