Libyan Army Officer and National Security Advisor of his father, former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, Moatassem Billah Gaddafi, commonly known as Mutassim, was Colonel Gaddafi's fourth son but possibly the most powerful. A former army officer who became his father's National Security Adviser after living in Egypt for a number of years following an alleged attempt to overthrow his father and take control of Libya, nevertheless, he stood beside his father till the end, commanding loyalist forces in their unsuccessful defense of Sirte. He was captured at Sirte as he was trying to leave the city in a family car and killed by NTC Forces opposed to his family's control. Following the end of the battle, his body was photographed lying dead on a hospital bed, with a gaping wound to his throat. Grainy images prove he was captured alive, but events leading to his death, remain unclear. According to National Transitional Council officials, he was buried in an unmarked grave in the Libyan desert along with his father, and with Abu Bakr Yunis, the former Libyan Defense Minister. All three men were killed during the battle for Sirte.
