Betty Bayne Wolfe Barnes, age 84, of Farmington, Fayette County, Pa., died Sunday, January 4, 2009, in the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa. She was born June 15, 1924 in Grindstone, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Andrew Dearth Wolfe and Margaret Espey Franks Wolfe.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert E. Barnes, Jr., and brother, Robert J. Wolfe. Betty was a graduate of Uniontown High School, Class of 1941, received an Associate Degree from Penn State University, Fayette, The Eberly Campus, in Civil Engineering. She worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Cartographer for five years, also for the now former Richmond Radiator, in Uniontown, as a Mechanical Draftsman for five years. Betty was an Assistant to the Resident Engineer of Bell Telephone; she followed on to work as a Chief Draftsman for Fayette County for twelve and a half years, also for Westmoreland Engineering as a consultant for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and a Draftsman for the state of Pennsylvania. In her retirement, she acted as a private draftsman and consultant for many years.

Betty was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Past Worthy Matron of the Uniontown Chapter No. 263 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Margaret E. Caven Shrine Chapter No. 42, Past President of the Soroptimists, and a Life Member and Charter Member since 1956, also of the Women Engineers Pittsburgh Section. Betty also enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her nephew, Dr. Dan L. Wolfe and wife, Dr. Darcy Wolfe, of Columbus, Ohio; two nieces: Karen Erickson and husband, William, of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Karelyn Hardacre and husband, Michael, of Kansas City, Missouri; several other nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa., where friends will be received today from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m., followed by a Service celebrating of Betty's life at 11 a.m., with Rev. Thomas Brown, officiating. Interment will be held in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, in Uniontown. Eastern Star Services will be held in the Funeral Home today at 7:30 p.m.
