Cyril was the youngest of three sons born to James McKellar Craig and Katie Marie Duhig. His younger sister, Josephine Annie, died at four months from Whooping Cough. After his parents divorced and his mother remarried, he left home to be on his own at the age of 11 or 12. He worked many jobs including truck driver, surveyor, trapper, boat builder, Coast Guard and auto mechanic. He lived most of his life in or near Seattle, Washington. He and his wife even managed an apartment complex in Seattle. He married Sibyl Gill, niece of Seattle Mayor Hiram Gill, December 2,1915 and they had three children only two of which survived to adulthood, Russell and Evelyn. He became a naturalized US citizen on September 13, 1920 in Astoria, Oregon. He was a kind and gentle man despite his rough beginnings.
