Henry Wilson Addington waa born to Henry Ellington Addington 1833 – 1903 and Elizabeth Walker Gulley 1839 – 1920. His known siblings were: Alvis Patton Addington 1857 – 1950; Sarah Sally J. Addington 1859; Lewis Scott Adington 1862 – 1946; James Henry Addington 1863 – 1946; Charles S. 1869 – 1954; Nancy Ann Addington 1871 – 1944; Mary Belle Addington 1874 – 1965; Van Trump Addington 1878 – 1972 and; Hesbia C ADDINGTON 1881 – 1926.

California, Voter Registers, 1866-1898 confirms that he was a Residence of Fresno, California in 1892. There is no other information about his trip to California.

Tennessee State Marriages confirms that he was back in Hawkins Co. Tennessee on 19 Dec 1897 when he exchanged marriage vows with Nannie H Gulley. From this union were born the following known children: Velma Hale Addington 1899 – 1970; Wickliffe Dale Addington 1901 – 1975 and Gladys R Addington 1908.

The 1900 census found Henry and Nanny and 5 month old Velma living in Fulkerson, Scott, Virginia. He owned the home and it was free from a mortgage. His brother, William F. Addington, and wife, Laura, were living with them. The men both had steady employment as Dry Goods merchants.

Tennessee, Death Records, 1908-1958 about Nannie Addington confirms that Henry and Nannie had moved to Bulls Gap, Tennessee before 1908, because Nannie had died on 25 September 1908 in Bulls Gap, Hawkins, Tennessee. The cause of death was Tuberculosis.

Henry selected a burial plot for Nannie at the Shepherd's Cemetery, and gathered his family and friends near to bid his beloved Nannie to "Rest in Peace."

In the 1910 census Henry was a widower, with his children living in Bulls Gap. He had a 27 year old servant in the home named Bonnie E Sirter. Henry owned his farm free of a mortgage and he was a farmer.

On Jan. 22, 1919 Henry choose Mary Virginia Koger as his second wife. Mary presented Henry with 4 known children. They are: Henry Wilson Addington Jr. 1923; William Forrest Addington 1925; Mary Kathern Addington 1927; Ruth Addington 1920-1993 and Martha Addington 1928.

On the 1920 census Henry owned his farm free of a mortgage in rural Bulls Gap, Tennessee. Wickliffe was 19, old enough to help on the farm. Gladys was in school and Ruth was just a month old. Velma and her recently married husband, Robert Kite, were living in the home. Robert was working at the Railroad depot as a clerk.

By 1930, the situation at home for Henry hadn't changed much, except the only children living at home were his and Mary Virginia's.

The 1940 census revealed that he still owned his farm and his home was valued at 1,200.00, in Bulls Gap, Hawkins, Tennessee. All of his and Mary Virginia's children were at home except Ruth.

Henry's death certificate supplied a little added information on Henry. Under usual occupation it said he was a merchant and Postmaster. Henry's wife was the informant and the Doctor that signed the document was R. S. Coweles
M.D.

On May 18, 1954, at the age of 90 years 7 months and 2 days,
Henry Wilson Addington exhaled his last breath and his spirit returned to God his Maker. His body was taken to to the Steward Funeral Home in Bulls Gap to be prepared for burial on May 20,1954. A burial plot was selected and Mary Virginia gathered her family and friends near to bid her beloved Henry farewell. (bio by Audrey Hoffman)
