1969 married Ronald B. Baker...School Teacher...Mother of Angela & Aaron...Step-daughter of Robert NOLTE Jr...Obit Tri-City Herald, Tri-Cities (Kennewick) WA, 11 Sep 2003, page A9.

D'Arcy Marie Baker, beloved wife and mother, entered the peace of eternal life with our Heavenly Father on September 9, 2003. She was a constant light of inspiration and love to her family and friends, and will be profoundly missed.

D'Arcy was born on October 24, 1948 and grew up in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1966. She married Ron Baker in 1969, and they moved to Richland, Washington. D'Arcy finished her Bachelor of Arts in Education at Central Washington University in 1970 and ultimately obtained a Master's Degree from Tri-City branch of Washington State University in 1997.

D'Arcy's primary focus throughout her life was her family. She devoted her energy and love to assuring that her children grew up surrounded by love, full of strength, and self-reliant. D'Arcy also passed on her faith, creativity, and strong values to her children. She was always a quiet example of strength and bravery to those around her, especially in recent years.

In addition to her family, D'Arcy left a significant legacy from her career as an educator in the Richland School District. As a teacher at Marcus Whitman Elementary for over 17 years, she made a positive difference in the lives of many young children. Her creative and innovative teaching style helped her 4th grade students reach their full potential and fostered independent thinking. She will be remembered particularly for her favorite teaching unit on birds in which she integrated the various aspects of learning and helped her students develop a love of science and nature.

Over the years, D'Arcy had many interests and was always trying new activities. Some of these interests included: choir, sewing, raising chickens and rabbits, supporting and refereeing recreational soccer, sailing in her Hobie Cat, decorating wedding cakes for friends' weddings and gingerbread houses for local businesses, kayaking, crafts of all kinds, gardening, designing and constructing a backyard pond and waterfall, as well as participating in many Volksmarches throughout Washington and Oregon. Her favorite hobby of all was bird watching. Her infectious enthusiasm for birds has inspired many young and old to appreciate birds in a new light.

D'Arcy is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ronald B. Baker; daughter, Angela Baker Kennewick; son, Aaron Baker Boston; stepfather, Robert Nolte, Jr. Bellingham; aunt, Molly Coates Seattle; mother-in-Law, Bea Baker Pasco; and brother-in-law, Paul E. Baker Los Angeles.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center, 7350 W. Deschutes Ave., Bldg. A, Kennewick, WA 99336 or the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick WA 99336. A memorial service will be held at Central United Protestant Church in Richland on September 12, 2003 at 4:30 pm.
