U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Earlham College Indiana, in 1933, Harvard Law School, in 1936, was admitted to the bar in 1935 and commenced to practice law in Richmond, Indiana, in 1936. He was prosecuting attorney of Wayne County, (1939-43) and during World War II, served as a First Lieutenant in the JAG Department US Army, in the Pacific, (1944-46). After the war, he was a member of the Indiana General Assembly, (1947-49, 53-59). In 1969, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninety-first Congress and to the next two succeeding Congresses, serving until 1975. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 86.
