Notes from my [DBardes] conversation with Mabel Posegate's eldest grandson, Charles von Dietrich Knighton, Jul 2014: [he died 16 Apr 2016]

Mabel was actually born in Maplewood which shortly after was incorporated into the City of Cincinnati. She died at Holmes Hospital, of a cerebral hemorrhage in her brain.

Mabel felt she was too young to be called grandma and requested to be called "Mother Mable", which her eldest grandson, Charles corrupted into "Mom May".

Mabel was artistically gifted with a beautiful soprano singing voice. She was the youngest member of her class at the first Walnut Hills High School (near Alms Hotel/DeSales corner). She was always obedient to her practical father's wishes. He insisted that she attend Nelson Business College, Cincinnati to learn typing skills. As a young business woman, Mabel attended the methodist church, Shaw Ave/Erie, which is currently being used as Hyde Park Sr. Center. Her father OF Bear was an active Baptist, but the baptist church was being built at this time, 1904. Mabel had her admirers but one faithful Sunday she came out of that Methodist Church to be met by two suitors who wanted to walk her home: one, Howard Baxter and the second, Charles S. Posegate. She had to choose, and Charles pressed his suit to marry her, despite her father's objections. There was an age difference. Her father liked Charles but he considered the age difference too great for his daughter to marry a much older man. Under subterfuge, Charles and Mable were married, 5 Dec 1905 at the Ferris family home, Linwood Ave in the formal parlor; two yrs later a daughter Mabel Victoria was born in the family parlor.[bio by findagraver, DBardes chatting with Charles von D.
