Sam Carver was born near Oskaloosa, Iowa, March 29, 1852, and died at Smithville, Mo., Wednesday March 16, 1932. In 1874 he was married to Mary Frances Seely. Twelve of thirteen children born to them survive as follows: Mrs Vina Lash, Nashua, Mrs. Annie Warren (not readable text).....Mrs. Etta Stanton, Smithville, Mrs. Rosa Harris and Mrs. Minnie Mayfield, Kansas City, Kas., Mrs Lulu Harris, Kearney, Frances Carver, Northern Heights, Mo., Jas. T. Calvin, Sidney, Robert and Elmer Carver, Logan, Kas. He is also survived by 49 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Watts, Lamar, Mo., and one brother James Carver, Alma, Neb. Mrs. Carver was one of the early settlers in this country and is reputed to be a man of fine character. He was a hard working man and upright in his dealings. He belonged to a Free Methodist church. He spent his early days in Smithville. During his illness his children were frequent visitors to his home and did everything in their power for his comfort. Dr. Baxter Waters conducted funeral services at the Methodist church Friday afternoon. Burial was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
