Parents of Percy Lee Mannen:
The 1870 census record for the household of Dr. Abraham Buford & Amy Armstrong Duke contains both Thomas H. Mannen and Frank Mannen (listed in obituary as Percy's brother). Also in the household is a Percy Dillet, Mulatto, age 1. If this is Percy Lee Mannen, then the record suggests that his parentage is in question. His death certificate shows "unknown" for parents' names.

A B Duke 47
Amy A Duke 30 (married Thomas H. Mannen in 1878)
Catherine Duke 8

Black Domestic Servants (slaveowner):
Martha Botts 22
Ruth Botts 22
Amanda Lee 16
Corte Lee 30

Mulatto Domestic Servants:
Elizbeth Grigsby 26
Percy Dillet 1
*** The last name could be read as "Ditto", but it seems to be Dillet. It is possible (likely) that this is Percy Lee Mannen, who was raised as a son of Thomas H. Mannen and his second wife Amy Armstrong Duke Mannen (sister of Thomas's first wife Harriett Armstrong who died in Feb 1869). Amy Armstrong Duke had a son Buford Duke in Feb 1869. Since Harriet died in Feb 1869 and Amy had a son in Feb 1869, it seems unlikely that Percy was the son of either woman. This record suggests that Percy Lee Mannen may have been a son of domestic servant Elizabeth Grigsby and an unknown father (Dillet?), but possibly Thomas H. Armstrong.
