Born in Barron County, Wisconsin. Served as mayor of Long Beach, CA from July 07, 1924 until his death.

Mayor Clark was born in Bardon, Wisconsin on September 8, 1872. He moved to Iowa with his family when he was 3 years old. In 1884 the family came to California, to settle in San Bernardino. Mayor Clark's father later moved to Anaheim, where he lived as a rancher. When Mayor Clark turned 17, he decided "to make his own way in the world." He took a position as a drug clerk in Pasadena. He liked the profession so much, that he decided to study and make it his life work. Mayor Clark came to Long Beach in 1907. He started his own business in San Pedro and later opened stores in Long Beach. In 1924 – Mayor Clark became a public servant, polling the largest vote ever given to anyone at the time. After the election, his peers unanimously appointed him Mayor. (submitted by john martin)
