Mary Helen (nee Kumler), beloved wife of 56 years to the late Paul Ralph Houchen of Parkersburg, WV, cherished mother of Thomas Harley (Jane) Houchen, Daniel Lee (Kimberly) Houchen, Samuel Bartlett Houchen, Bonnie Jo (Jami Boshoven) Houchen, Rebecca Jane (Lester) Lubitz and Julie Christine (Grant) Stedronsky. Loving grandmother of Kellie, Julie, Alyssa, Jonathan, Jessica, Lee, Shannon, Patrick, Paul, Thomas, Joshua, Marc, Stephen and Bailey. Great-grandmother of Joseph and Daniel. She is also survived by her brother Lindley King Kumler and her loving kitty Chloe. She was preceded in death by her parents Neal Adams and Evelyn (nee Kistler) Kumler and her sister Katryn Jane Meier. Passed away on Monday, January 30th at the age of 84. Mrs. Houchen was born in Baltimore, OH where her father was employed at Maylfower Creamery. She attended Pickerington School until the age of 14 then graduated from Liberty High School in 1938. She continued her education at Bliss Business College in Columbus, OH. Moving to California where she met and married her husband, Paul. Mary worked for the National Youth Association and Consolidated Papermill as a payroll clerk in Baltimore, OH. During WWII she was employed at Curtiss Wright Corporation in Port Columbus, OH. She was a Demit member of Mt. Healthy Chapter #365 Order of the Eastern Star, Scout leader for both Cubs and Brownies in North College Hill and Springdale. She also volunteered for the NCH Knothole Baseball Association. A memorial service will be held in May, in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be directed to the Macular Vision Research Foundation, Five Tower Bridge, 300 Barr Harbor Dr., Suite 600, West Conshohocker, PA (19428).
