US Congressman, US Senator. Elected to represent Minnesota's 3rd District, 5th District, and as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1917 to 1919, and 1933 to 1937. He was defeated as Farmer-Labor in 1930. Also served as a Member of the Minnesota State Legislature, and United States Senator from Minnesota from 1937 until his death in 1940.
