William "Bill" Carson Herron, 88, Peru, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at his daughter's residence.
He was born in Cookeville, Tenn. on Feb. 25, 1923 to Asa Herron and Marietta Garvin. He married Ruby May (Esterday) Herron and she preceded him in death.
Bill was retired. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a life member of FVW 2067 and past commander for several years.
In the Army, he was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He earned the good conduct medal, WWII victory medal and combat infantry badge.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Turner and husband Jim, La Fontaine; a granddaughter, Hope Short, Georgia; and a brother, Floyd Herron, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St., with Pastor Kenny Cole officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru. Military services by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
