It is stated that:

"1st Lt. Wittee and T/Sgt Hart were executed immediately upon capture. S/Sgt Beecroft was executed on July 21, 1945 and S/Sgt Strong was executed on the last day of the war - August 15, 1945."

Unfortunately, the date and manner of these executions are incorrect. According to the crash investigation files and war trial documents, Wittee and Beecroft were executed "on or around" July 20th. They were blindfolded, shot in the head, and buried in a mass grave outside of Osaka Castle.

The date of execution of Russell Strong is listed in various places as 8/15/1945, and this is also what is written on his tombstone in Arlington National Cemetery. However, the reason for this was that his remains were returned before the Tokyo War trials and it was unclear if they'd ever have a date for this. IDPF files reveal that 8/15/45 was chosen because this was the last date he could be alive. According to those who were involved in his execution, he was killed on or around July 31st, 1945. He asked for diarrhea medicine and was given poison instead.

The exact circumstances and date of Alvin Hart's death are unknown, but he died while in the custody of the Osaka Kenpei Tai sometime between June 3 and August 15th. There were no bullet wounds found in his remains and it is possible he died due to mistreatment, starvation, or succumbed to his wounds in the fall from the B29 that he parachuted out of.
