Rowena Hodgett Miller, 92, Encore Senior Village, Stevens Point, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006.

A brief memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. Harold Keekley officiating. Interment of ashes will be in the Canton, Mo., cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be designated to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 203 Schiek Plaza, Rhinelander, WI 54501 or Women's Fund of Portage County, 1501 Clark St., Stevens Point, WI 54481.

Mrs. Miller was born on Nov. 11, 1913, a daughter of the late Absalom and Esther (Boggs) Hodgett.

She was married to Russell Marks Miller of Canton, Mo., on Aug. 1, 1935, at her parents' home in Kewanee, Ill. He died on Feb. 28, 1966.

She attended Western State Teachers' College and received her teaching certificate for elementary education. She later completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois.

She taught elementary education in Kewanee and Blue Island, Ill.

She raised her family in Blue Island, Ill., where her husband was the high school assistant superintendent of schools. She was active in her church and community.

Survivors include one son, James Russell Miller, Stevens Point; one daughter, Nancy (Robert) Schmidt, Stevens Point; one sister, Marjorie Hodgett, Galesburg, Ill.; one brother, Dana Hodgett, Neponset, Ill.; and two grandsons.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Knueppel and Lois Dana; and one grandson.

Mrs. Miller was my 2nd grade teacher @ Greenwood School in Blue Island, Il.
