Parents were T.A. and Huldah Cowan.
T.A. died in 1855 and Huldah died in 1859 and Albert went to live with relatives Henry and Jane Cowan.
At the age of twenty-one, Albert enlisted at Throop to serve for one year. He was mustered in as a private in Company F of the 111th New York Infantry on September 3, 1864.
At the time he enlisted, Albert was a farmer with blue eyes, sandy colored hair, and a dark complexion and stood five feet seven and a half inches tall.
At the battle of Sutherland Station on April 2, 1865, Albert was shot in the right wrist. He recovered in time to be mustered out with his regiment on June 4, 1865.
Sometime after 1870, Albert married Esther Waters and they had the following children:
1880 - Charles
1881 - John T.
1885 - Rena
1887 - Erma
Albert died in Hannibal on February 8, 1892.
