The daughter of Eulis Samuel "Bud" Dunnagan and Nena G. Fields, Jean married Charles William Smith on 26 Nov 1947 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. She was a student at Alton High School at the time of her marriage, and her husband was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy.

They were the parents of 6 children. She was a homemaker, and he worked in Peoria, Illinois at that time.

Charles worked for Olin Corporation for 35 years. He retired in 1985 as a supervisor.

Jean lived until 2000. She died at Barnes-Jewish Hospital 22 days after her 71st birthday.

She was survived by her husband, Charles; 1 son and 1 daughter-in-law; 5 daughters and 5 sons-in-law; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her mother; and 2 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law.

In addition to her father, Jean was preceded in death by 1 grandson, Craig Caleb Sims.

A private visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the beginning of services at 10 a.m. on 19 Dec 2000 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, Madison County, Illinois.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the Shriners' Hospital for Children in St. Louis.

Jean's husband, Charles, passed away in 2001, and they share a headstone.

Children: 1 son, 5 daughters.
