In memory of Daniel Lacey, Jr.

Daniel was the son of Capt. Daniel Lacey of the Revolutionary War.

According to the History of Stratford, Settlers of Old Stratfield book, Daniel "went West" while his brothers John and Michael settled Lacey's Mill; a fulling mill that was in old Stratfield, Fairfield County, CT, but is no longer standing. The location was underneath what is now the lower end of the Merritt Parkway. He also had a brother Squire and sister Sarah.

Daniel's trip west was to northwestern NY State. He married Mary Woodhull, and they had a son, Henry Francis Lacey. I have no record of their other children, if any. The family appears in Niagara County records and most are buried here in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

In Early Stratfield Church Records, Daniel and Mary are listed as joining the Old Stratfield Church in 1813, where the last name is spelled Lacy. Daniel's brother Squire's 1819 death is recorded in same records with that spelling, as Esq. Lacy. Squire's headstone and that of his mother's spell the name Lacy, the others spell it Lacey.
