From A Portrait of Old Georgetown
William and Allen Dodge received special practical training in agriculture and animal industry at the Maryland Agricultural College. Mr. Dodge bought William a farm near Hagerstown and for Allen one near Bladensburg, but due to the Civil War and the abolition of slaves, both of these highly developed ventures failed and the farms were sold.

Mr. William P. Dodge of 3106 P Street, a well-known citizen, died Monday at his residence, at the advanced age of seventy-nine years. Mr. Dodge was a native of Washington County, Maryland and received his education there. About fifteen years ago he removed to Washington and secured employment with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, in which connection he made a large number of acquaintances. He leaves two children, one a daughter, Mrs. Wynkoop, [died 1919] the wife of Rev. Mr. Wynkoop, formerly pastor of the Western Presbyterian Church of Washington, now engaged in missionary work in India. The other child, Mason Dodge is a resident of California.
