Gary was born in Minot,ND to Lewis and Viola(Bulyca) McDaniel. He was raised and educated in Velva,ND . At the age of 17 he entered the U S Navy,and trained in heavy equipment operation with the seabee's building runways and bridges throughout the pacific and Alaska. Fowllowing his honorable discharge from the service he returned to ND and worked with his family which operated McDaniel Construction in Velva.
Gary married Kathryn Berg in 1966 in Calif. then moved to Velva .Gary joined the Minot Fire Department in1969. He spent 32 years there. He retired as Lieutenant, and recieved many citations and commendations.
He had a passion for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed guiding hunters from around the country. He was instrumental in establishing Walleye fishing tournamenys and assisted the North Dakota Game and Fish Departmentby tagging sseveral different species of fish for promoting fishing on the Garrison Dam and the state of North Dakota. He designed and marketed fishing lures for many years. He was rated #1 salmon fisherman in the state of ND
he is survived by his parents Lewis and Viola McDaniel; his wife Kathryn; three daughters JoLynn(Allen)Seaman of Olathe,KS.; Melanie(Larry)Mosberg of
palmdale,CA.; and Kimberly(Vance)Snyder Gardner,KS.; 12 grandchildren.
