The second child of WA Murrell and Mary M Honts, John Henry was b. in Virginia and lived there at least until 1850, where he is found at age 13 living with his parents. His parents migrated to Roseville, Swan Twp., Warren Co., Illinois in 1853, and he probably went with them.

At age 23 he was listed in the 1860 US Fedreal Census in Point Pleasant, Warren Co., Illinois. He was working as a farm hand for his sister Elizabeth Ann (Murrell) Roberts and her husband, John Roberts. John Henry married Lydia Rabun two years later, on 21 Dec 1862.

By the time of the 1870 US Federal census, the family had migrated to Elk Fork, Pettis Co., Missouri. He died at age 42 on 23 Mar 1880 in Green Ridge, MO, just a couple of months before the birth of his last child.

Their children were: Elsina (1863-1887), William H. (1866-1867), Solomon Solie (1867-1920), Leni Leota (1870-1888), John Jacob (1877-1939), and Allie Neora (1880-1947).
